![]() Whats this no steering lets see maybe interfeance so I walk over closer to car and its smoking I look inside and the steering servo is toasting so I turn car off. OK one tank down and and now I can start going fast. Just a bit more break in time and I can start tuning for performance. So here we are again im STOKED I am soooo ready to air this new toy out. I went to shop to purchase Traxxus REVO hobby shop owner said “DUDE that xtm mammoth st is faster, tougher, and by far more stable not to mention $150.00 cheaperâ€īring home unpack fill tank with fuel and begin long break-in process (im gonna do it by the book) several tanks of fuel (about ½ gallon) and several hours later the sun drops behind the horizon so I pack it up and put it on charger.Ĭan’t wait to get off work to come home and actually see what this new toy has to offer. I went to hobby shop to look at offroad cars I have had a on road car for years bought used from hobby shop owner (his personal toy) so im not a young dumb rookie I am 40 years old and not at all new to nitro cars so with that said. I just wanted to pop in and tell everyone reading a story about my XTM Racing MAMMOTH ST so here we go. In this case, bigger wasn't better, but I got the engine rediculously cheap on ebay so had to try I have an Hobao Mach 28 in mine now and the performance is essentially the same. Oh, and as far as 1/8 scale car engines go, the. Steering is now amazing, and the tower servo was only $30. I needed more steering torque with the 1.5 pound iron bumper, but even without it the steering servo wasn't impressive. Made custom mounts for it using ABS plastic from mcmastercarr of course. To make it fit I had to relocate the receiver box.on top of the servo. I also installed a 1/5 scale steering servo. I replaced the cheap XTM shims with these (about 3-5 in each diff, varies and can be higher). I ordered 8X14mm stainless shims (0.2mm thick) from (part number A370-919). I finally found a fix for these cheap shims. It was obvious when they wore because the gears would skip. I would shim them with the 0.1 or 0.2mm shims but they would wear out and I would have to re-shim. One problem I had was with the differential shimming. I had the brace on long before I put the bumper on. I always had problems with the chassis bending, but putting that brace on ended it. It stands firm with my $5.00 chassis brace. I have hit everything from produce to an old TV (last weekend). I mounted an iron bumper onto my ST to make it a destruction machine. It essentially serves as an upper chassis. With the cooling head of the engine in the way, it will be more towards the passenger side. Drill holes in each shock tower and put it between them. Drill and tap both ends to accept a screw. the chassis needs some firming, but you can fix that with a piece of 7/16" or bigger aluminum rod, a drill, and a tap. This opinion is coming from someone who doesn't race, just a basher. ![]()
